by MSTY Writers

It's been a while since you could honestly say you loved your natural hair. Perhaps you have been hiding it behind those twists and braids or those incessant up-dos or if you live in a humid climate, you are doing everything in your power to hide it from all of the moisture that is in the air. If any of this sounds familiar, it may be time for you to find ways to fall in love with those natural locks again.

Here are five things you can do to rekindle the relationship!

#1 Take Down Your Hair

That's right. More than likely, you have been hiding your hair in twists, braids, locs or even that coveted up-do pouf. Whatever the style, its time to let your hair down. Taking your hair down however may also require you to take a few necessary steps to reintroduce yourself to your hair but that's okay, get ready to do the work. See step #2.

#2 Shampoo and Condition Your Natural Hair

Pull out your great pre-poo mix and let it set for a couple of hours, then spend a little time with your natural hair by shampooing it with a moisture rich shampoo that will not strip your hair then follow it with an equally moisture rich conditioner. Don't forget to apply a deep conditioner. Deep conditioning your hair will allow you to restore your hair's natural texture and assist in repairing any damage that might exist as a result of your temporary distraction away from a consistent natural hair care regimen. After rinsing your deep conditioner, apply a leave-in conditioner to your hair to help seal in moisture. This process should enable you to regain access to hair that is otherwise soft and manageable.

#3 Trim Your Ends

The chances are that if you have been hiding those natural tresses behind twists and braids and fanciful up-dos, you have not given those ends a good trim in quite some time. There's no better way to become reacquainted with where your hair stands than with a good trim and get rid of any dead hair or damage.

#4 Try a New Natural Hairstyle or Wear an Old Favorite

Next, try a new natural hairstyle. Do not be afraid to try a new look. Check out Pinterest or YouTube and find a new look or don one of your favorite styles for a bit of nostalgia. Better yet, find a natural hair professional who can assist you with a new look. Unlike several years ago when there was only a few natural hair stylist on the market, there are now dozens available who understand natural hair and will be more than willing to assist you. You don't have to do it yourself!

#5 Find Three New Natural Hair Divas to Follow on Social Media

There's nothing like finding new talent on YouTube or Pinterest who loves natural hair and is more than willing to share in the trials and triumphs associated with wearing natural hair. Get back out there and find a few new natural hair divas to help motivate you in loving your hair again.
